HOW ARE LIPS ENHANCED?
Lips can be enhanced by injecting either temporary or permanent dermal filler.
Temporary filler is made from hyaluronic acid naturally found in the skin and permanent filler is made from polyacrymides which are non-toxic and widely used in medicine in the production of contact lenses and prosthetics.
THE CONSULTATION – WHAT TO EXPECT.
Consultation is free and there is no obligation to go through with treatment.
With any new treatment that you are considering at Cosmetic Image Clinics, experienced Doctors at Cosmetic Image Clinics will discuss your requirements with you and ensure all your questions are answered prior to the procedure taking place.
At consultation the Doctor will:
- Tailor the treatment to suit your individual needs,
- Discuss costs
- Discuss the use of local anaesthetic
- Discuss the risks of treatment
- Discuss any medical concerns you may have
- When it comes to lip enhancement many people are concerned that they will end up with that dreaded trout pout. To avoid looking as though you have just stepped out of a TV soap opera, experienced Doctors will discuss the look you would like to achieve.
Lip enhancement gives you a fantastic lip base for lipsticks, making your lips more inviting and certainly very kissable.
HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE, WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?
Treatment with dermal filler takes around 20 minutes. A local anaesthetic is used, similar to what you would receive at the dentist.
For this cosmetic injectable treatment, a very fine needle is used to fill the border of the upper and/or lower lip to add contour, or in the body of the lip to add fullness.
With temporary fillers, regular treatments are required approximately every 3-6 months to maintain the look.
Results with dermal filler are instant. Temporary filler results can last from 3-9 months depending on the product used and the individual metabolism.
Permanent filler takes the form of a soft implant under the skin once injected. After your first permanent treatment, you may require a further top up treatment to ensure that you achieve the look you desire.
If you are considering permanent filler, we recommend you ‘test drive’ the look with a temporary filler before upgrading.
If you do decide you would like to upgrade to a permanent product, there must be a 6 month gap between your last temporary filler treatment and your treatment with permanent filler before the doctor can administer a permanent solution to the treated area.
To ensure the initial puffiness is reduced prior to returning to work, many of our patients use the end of the day to have their lips treated.
It is essential that you follow the pre and post dermal filler treatment instructions to reduce the risk of swelling and bruising. These instructions can be downloaded on this page.
We strongly recommend if you are preparing for a special event such as a wedding or work function that you have treatment 14 days prior to the event.
WHICH LOOK IS RIGHT FOR ME?
There are a variety of techniques and dermal filler types for lip contouring and enhancement that enable you to choose the style and shape of your lips. At the same time we can correct or treat conditions such as uneven lips, gummy smile and even hare lip. A free consultation with the Doctor is advised prior to treatment to decide what is right for you, as not all styles suit in individual cases.
Some examples are shown below.
ENHANCING THIN LIPS
If you are looking for larger more inviting lips, filler can be used to plump out the top and/or bottom lips for that perfect pout.

LIP DEFINITION & SMOKER’S LINES
With age the lip line can become less defined, causing the lip to loose its natural pout and lipsticks to bleed, with a little dermal filler injected into the border you can define and exentuate your lips. Smoking accelerates the aging process. The tell-tale signs of lines around the top lip can be smoothed with filler.

THE PARIS LIP
A treatment that has given women classic glamour over the last ten years is Paris Lip.
Paris Lip successfully uses dermal filler to define the border of the lip, accentuating the cupid’s bow giving an elegant and natural contour.
Paris Lip outlines to the lips subtly without the use of lip-liner or lipstick. The treatment is as popular with younger people who are looking for that perfect pout, and with more mature women looking for a more natural and youthful look.

GUMMY SMILE
These days there is always someone there with a camera of truth and, inevitably, images are downloaded from and posted mercilessly on Facebook – if a gummy smile is making you cringe and spend most of the day untagging yourself from your best friend’s profile, you may wish to consider adjusting your smile with muscle relaxant therapy.

CORRECTING A HARE LIP
If you suffer from a genetically inherited harelip, the visual effects can be camouflaged with the use of dermal filler. Whether the harelip can be treated depends on the severity of the condition and patient’s individual requirements.

WILL I LIKE THE LOOK?
There are several different looks that can be achieved from lip enhancement, a lighter expression, a luscious pout, the famous Paris Lip; it depends entirely on the personality and aims of the individual.
Lip enhancememt can be a temporary treatment lasting 3-12 months or a more permanent solution dependant on the type of dermal filler used. The look can be maintained with top up treatments and once the filler has worn down, your skin and lips will return to their original shape. Quick and easy, a local anaesthetic is used much like you would receive at the Dentist and the treatment takes around 20 minutes to perform.
Whether you are looking just to plump up your thin lips or to extenuate and define a seductive pout, experienced Doctors at Cosmetic Image Clinics will be happy to offer advice on the suitability of the treatment for you.
